Things to do in Filey when it's raining

Inspired by Warren Zevon's "Things to do in Denver when you're dead", here's some ideas for what to do in Filey on a wet day.

  • Catch a train - they go to Scarborough, Bempton, Brid, Beverley and Hull
  • Catch a bus - the countryside's lovely
  • Go swimming - in the sea if you like (it's only rain after all), but there's Leisure World on the front in Brid, another one in Scarborough, and if you fancy a drive there's waterworld just north of York.
  • Visit Burton Agnes. A magnificent Elizabethan mansion in The Wolds. Can be done by bus from Brid.
  • Sewerby Hall - just outside Flamborough. Was a small stately home, now a museum with a lovely little zoo. There's a "land train" from Brid, or buses direct from Filey.
  • Go see a film - both cinemas in Filey are long gone, but there's a cinema in Brid and three in Scarborough.
  • Check out the local hostelries and follow it up with fish and chips. Guaranteed to brighten any day.
  • Visit The Deep - it's in Hull, but trains go there.
  • Go for a walk on the beach
  • Eden Camp - a fair way, but plenty of it's indoors.
  • Yorkshire Air Museum - a fair drive, but if aircraft float your boat.
  • Hit the charity shops and buy a book or two
  • Stay in bed
  • North York Moors Railway - a fair way to Pickering, but from there the trains now go all the way to Whitby (sometimes)

Go to Bonhommes Bar Filey. We went at weekend. Superb Real Ale and nice friendly staff. Will definitely be back on my next visit to Filey.
