Thomasandstanley.com - scammers and financial fraudsters

If you're contacted by Steven Chan of thomasandstanley.com it's a scam. He's a fraudster. Do not sent back an NDA, do not send your bank details, and on no account buy into any kind of insurance bond. I say again, thomasandstanley are fraudsters - they will steal your money. He tried to scam me over GNE group, but I believe he's trying other AIM and small cap shares too. Read on for the full story:

In July 2009 I was contacted by one Steven Chan, purportedly speaking from New York. He span a long tale of hedge funds, hostile takeovers and corporate finance.

He claimed to be wanting to buy a small parcel of shares I held in the former AIM company GNE Group, and offered a very high price range. He then emailed a Non Disclosure Agreement for me to return. Curious but not convinced, I did.

He rang back every couple of days, speaking in a very flat monotone voice, repeating my name at least twice in every sentence  and informing me of the progress of the takeover. Gradually woven into the story was a tale of an insurance bond, of which the buyer would provide most and the vendor (me) a small part - all to ensure nobody backed out of the transaction.

Eventually he got to the sting. There had been a 50x consolidation(sic) which meant my 145 shares had become 7,250 and miraculously were still worth the silly price they had been offering to start with. So my 200 quid of shares had become worth £58,362.00.  All I had to do was fax my bank details and cough up a 12% insurance bond of £4,902.45p.

So I did some digging and here's the results

  • thomasandstanley.com are not known at their address of 10th Floor, 817 Broadway
  • the real tenants at 817 have piles of mail for them from people they've been scamming in the UK
  • the real tenants have reported them to the FBI, as have I.
  • the site is on ultra cheap hosting, sharing an IP with about 500 other websites. Not terribly corporate is it.
  • their website was registered in February by someone in Illinois. Unfortunately I didn't write his name down and when I went back to look for that info it was no longer available on the web. But I did manage to find a cache of it, and here it is, :

Against my better judgement I reported this thieving little scumbucket to my local plod, West Yorkshire Police. And as I expected they were totally useless and didn't want to know. They sure as hell weren't prepared to leave their comfort zone and do some real work.

But in case anyone from the law enforcement community is interested I hope the above information helps.

And Steven, I know you're reading this, and I now have your IP address. Sucker.
